Software

Software types.

Software is the computer programs and is divided into:

- Application software that solves problems for the computer user and improves his/her productivity such as banking programs, airline-reservation programs, educational programs, computer-aided design (CAD) programs as AutoCAD, computer games, word processors as Microsoft Word, and spreadsheets as Microsoft Excel.

- System software that provides an environment suitable for developing and executing application software such as basic input/output systems (BIOSs), operating systems as Windows and Unix, language translators (compilers and interpreters), and database management systems (DBMs) as Microsoft Access.
