Computers today are mostly multimedia computers meaning that they process four types of data:

- Text data consisting of alphabets (a, b, c, …), digits (0, 1, 2, …), and special characters (@, $, !, …).

- Image data consisting of still pictures as drawings and photographs.

- Audio data as music and voice.

- Video data (motion pictures) as movies and live events.
