A print head travels back and forth along a bar. The head prints by acting as a jet that fires (sprays) fast-drying ink through so many tiny nozzles that are smaller than a human hair. The print head may be included within the ink cartridge. Cartridges for color printers have four inks: magenta, cyan, yellow, and black. Each cartridge is made of ink-filled chambers that spray ink once heated. Example resolutions are 720 x 720 and 2400 x 1200. Example speeds are 12 page per minute (ppm) for black print and 10 ppm for color. Regarding quality, speed, noise, and cost, inkjet printers offer an excellent middle ground between dot-matrix and laser printers. |
