A printer is an output device. It converts a computer file into a paper document. Its resolution is the amount of detail it can generate and is measured in dot per inch (dpi). A printer with resolution 1200 x 2400 dpi represents each square inch of the generated paper pattern by a rectangle whose dimensions are 1200 dots in the X direction and 2400 dots in the Y direction. Based on their internal operation, those used with microcomputers can be classified as dot-matrix, inkjet, or laser. In evaluating these types, four factors are most important: print quality, speed, noise level, and cost. |
